Clara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and a Master’s degree in Statistics from LMU Munich. She continued her academic journey at LMU, starting as a PhD student at the Social Data Science and AI Lab. In her research, she examines the societal impact and fairness of algorithmic decision-making systems. In particular, systems that may have a direct impact on women and refugees. Her goal is to use data science for social good.

Abstract
Refugee Integration through Algorithmic Location Matching
In my research, I deal with algorithms that match refugees to locations, with the overall aim of improving their integration. As some of these algorithms are already being piloted in Europe and the U.S., it is crucial to address their consequences. To this end, I critically evaluate and compare existing matching tools with a focus on fairness. By evaluating these tools, I aim to provide a deeper understanding of how algorithmic matching tools differ and what key components need to be considered to ensure fair and reliable algorithmic decision-making in dynamic contexts.
