Patrick obtained his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at TUM in 2021, and then went on to complete his M.Sc. in the study programme Robotics, Cognition, Intelligence (RCI) in 2026 with a thesis entitled “Towards Provable Safety in Lane Detection for Autonomnous Vehicles”. During his Master’s degree Patrick spent 8 months in Beijing, China working as an intern for VW. He joined relAI as an associated PhD student in 2026, after beginning his PhD at the TUM Cyber-Physical Systems Group under the supervision of Prof. Matthias Althoff.
relAI Research
His research interests mainly lie in the intersection of deep learning and formal methods, with which robustness and safety properties can be certified for neural networks. More specifically, he is interested in applying the techniques of set-based reachability analysis to neural networks in order to verify the safety of their outputs. Patrick is also interested in the applicability of these approaches to safety-critical use cases such as autonomous driving or railway traffic.
