After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in System Analysis at the National Technical University of Ukraine ”Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and his Master’s degree in Data Science at LMU Munich, Valentyn decided to do research in causal inference and data-driven decision-making. Now, he is a PhD candidate at the Institute of AI in Management, LMU Munich, under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Feuerriegel.

Uncertainty Quantification in Causal Machine Learning
My research focuses on causal machine learning for estimating treatment effects and supporting data-driven decisions from observational data. I develop flexible, efficient, and robust methods that combine causal inference with probabilistic modelling, with a particular emphasis on uncertainty quantification, representation learning, generative models, and robustness to confounding or violated assumptions. My work addresses challenging settings such as high-dimensional, time-series, and multimodal data, and is motivated by real-world applications including medicine and other decision-making domains. Overall, my goal is to make treatment-effect estimation more reliable, informative, and practically useful for predicting outcomes and improving decisions.
